GIFT (gamete intrafallopian transfer)
What it is
Gamete intrafallopian transfer (eggs-spermatozoa)
The procedure at a glance
Following the egg collection under the same anaesthesia a laparoscopic intrafallopian placement of 3-4 eggs and a small amount of activated sperm (in vivo fertilisation) in the fallopian tube(s) takes place using special catheters.
ZIFT (zygote intrafallopian transfer)
What it is
Zygote intrafallopian transfer (early embryos)
The procedure at a glance
One day after the egg collection, a laparoscopic intrafallopian placement of early embryos fertilised in vitro at the lab the previous day, is performed.
Both methods require hospitalisation and general anaesthesia.
An essential requirement is for women to have healthy and normal fallopian tubes and for men to have normal sperm parameters
